Das Sound Cinema Düsseldorf ist ein Recorded-Sound-Festival für experimentelle Musik und elektroakustische Klangkunst, das am 10.06.2021 zum dritten Mal im Filmkunstkino Cinema stattfindet. Das Festival erstreckt sich über einen Abend, an dem zehn ausgewählte Einreichung präsentiert und anschließend durch eine Fachjury und das Publikum prämiert werden. Essenzieller Bestandteil der Veranstaltung ist hierbei die an den Kinosaal angelehnte Hörsituation: Die durch die räumliche und technische Anordnung geschaffene Wahrnehmung versetzt die Hörenden in die ungewohnte Situation, aufgenommene Klänge gemeinschaftlich konzentriert anzuhören. Die explizite Auslassung visueller Stimuli verursacht hierbei eine Verschiebung der Konzentration auf den Hörsinn.
Gesucht werden musikalische Kompositionen, Klangkollagen, Klangexperimente, Soundscapes und narrative Audioformate, die sich durch einen transgressiven und futuristischen Impetus auszeichnen und den Versuch unternehmen, konventionelle Hörerfahrungen zu unterlaufen. Dazu zählen auch technoide und pop-avantgardistische Formen. Beiträge können entweder für die freie Kategorie oder für den Themenschwerpunkt eingereicht werden.
Freie Kategorie
Für die freie Kategorie können musikalische Kompositionen, Klangcollagen, Klangexperimente, Soundscapes und narrative Audioformate eingereicht werden. Aber auch Aufnahmen, die sich mit den Grenzen von Klanglichkeit und Hören selbst beschäftigen und/oder das Resonanzverhältnis von Klang, Körper und Raum akustisch erforschen, werden gesucht.
Themenschwerpunkt 2021: Isolation
Mit der Einführung eines Themenschwerpunktes möchte das Sound Cinema die akustische Auseinandersetzung mit zeitgenössischen Erfahrungswelten fordern und fördern. Der diesjährige Schwerpunkt “Isolation” stellt ein Phänomen in das Zentrum des Festivals, das den Diskurs um Corona- Präventionsmaßnahmen und deren soziale und psychische Auswirkungen durchzieht. Doch auch jenseits der Pandemie ist Isolation eine vielschichtige Erfahrung des Individuums in seinem Verhältnis zur Umwelt und sich selbst – ein Phänomen zwischen Einschluss und Ausschluss, Progressivität und Regression, Meditation und Depression, kreativer Kontemplation und Einöde. Für den Themenschwerpunkt sucht das Sound Cinema 2021 Produktionen, die sich akustisch mit dem Wesen der Isolation auseinandersetzen.
Bewerbung & Einsendekriterien
Alle eingereichten Produktionen dürfen eine Länge von 10 Minuten nicht überschreiten.
Die Einsendung erfolgt digital per Uploadlink bis zum 31.03.2021 an die Emailadresse info@soundcinema.eu.
Akzeptiert werden alle gängigen Audioformate (z.B. wav oder aif) in 16bit und 44,1Khz. Mehrkanal- Produktionen ist ein Stereo-Mixdown beizulegen, da zu diesem Zeitpunkt die notwendigen Wiedergabevoraussetzungen jenseits eines Stereosystems noch nicht gewährleistet werden können.
Allen Beiträgen muss ein Konzeptpapier von einer DIN-A4-Seite (ca. 300 Wörtern) beigefügt werden. Das Konzeptpapier besteht aus einer kurzen Projektbeschreibung, die eine konzeptionelle Reflexion der Produktion beinhalten soll. Einreichungen für den Themenschwerpunkt sollten ihre Einordnung entsprechend begründen.
Zur Erstellung des Programmheftes wird zudem um die Einsendung einer Kurz-Vita (ein Absatz) gebeten.

Call for Sounds: Sound Cinema Düsseldorf 2021

The recorded audio festival Sound Cinema Düsseldorf is calling for audio contributions.
The Sound Cinema Düsseldorf is a recorded sound festival for experimental music and electroacoustic sound art that will take place on June 10th 2021 at the Filmkunstkino Cinema in Düsseldorf, Germany. On the day of the event, a selection of ten audio productions, which has been carefully picked by a selection panel, will be presented. At the end of the evening, two jury awards and one audience award will be awarded. The event is being organized by the Department for Media and Cultural Studies at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf.
Inspired by the perceptual conditions of the cinema, the Sound Cinema creates an environment for collective listening of recorded sound. An essential component of the event is the listening situation, which is based on the cinema: The perceptual dispositiv created by the spatial and technical arrangement puts the listeners in the unusual situation of listening to recorded sounds in a concentrated way. The explicit omission of visual stimuli causes a shift in concentration to the sense of hearing.
We are looking for musical compositions, soundscapes, sound collages, sonic experiments and narrative audio formats that are characterized by a transgressive and futuristic impetus and attempt to undermine conventional listening experiences. This also includes technoid and pop-avantgardistic approaches. Contributions can be submitted either for the free category or for the thematic focus.
Free category
For the free category, musical compositions as well as soundscapes, sound collages, sonic experiments and narrative audio formats can be submitted. But also recordings that deal with the limits of sound and hearing itself and/or that acoustically explore the resonance relationship between sound, body and space will be sought.
Thematic focus 2021: Isolation
With the introduction of a thematic focus, the Sound Cinema would like to encourage and promote the acoustic examination of contemporary phenomena and experiences. This year’s focus on “Isolation” places a phenomenon at the center of the festival that pervades the discourse on corona prevention measures and their social and psychological effects. But even beyond the pandemic, isolation is a multi-layered experience of the individual in its relationship to the environment and itself – a phenomenon between inclusion and exclusion, meditation and depression, creative contemplation and solitude. For the thematic focus, the Sound Cinema 2021 is looking for productions that aim to acoustically reflect the essence of isolation.
Application and submission criteria
All submitted productions may not exceed a length of 10 minutes.
Submissions should be carried out digitally via upload link until 31.03.2021 to the e-mail address info@soundcinema.eu.
All popular audio formats (e.g. wav or aif) will be accepted in 16 bit and 44.1 KHz. Multi-channel productions must be accompanied by a stereo mixdown, since at this point in time the necessary playback requirements beyond a stereo system cannot yet be guaranteed.
All contributions must be accompanied by a concept paper of one DIN A4 page (approx. 300 words). The concept paper consists of a short project description, which should contain a conceptual reflection of the production. Submissions for the thematic focus should justify their classification accordingly.
In addition, the submission of a short CV (one paragraph) is requested for the creation of the program booklet.
